The A real fake story about Michael Stipe. Yes, it's funny because it's not like he asked for money or gifts or pretended to be dying...

Offend your feminist sensibilites.

Oh geez, look at this contest. I know who, but I have no idea why.

May 28th:
Goodies from the Toronto Small Press Fair (I just love it) yesterday:

Kiss Machine 2:
I -love- this zine! Toronto based zine of art, humour, politics, fun, media. This issue, "Elephants and the media." Upcoming: "Sex and condiments," and "Aliens and hospitals."

dig 8:
Jennifer Lovegrove's lit journal -- this one includes The Night Keanu Reeves Kicked me in the Face (Michael Gregg Michaud), and It's all Frida K's Fault by Emily Pohl-Weary.

Melt the Snow 12:
Teri's personal zine about memory and weather and other stuff. This one (#12) includes a little fiction piece about magic disappearing powder and some thoughts on various forms of transportation.

And I didn't get, but reallyreally wanted lucky to have a job, from eggtooth.

The next fair is in the fall. Go.

May 25th:
Okay, did the dead dog really dig itself out of a grave? I don't know if I can believe it. Maybe. And I wish I had an address to send some chew-toys for poor Sweetie...

I finally found the directions to make a paper fortune teller, (like the virtual one seen here). I will never be bored again.

May 24th:
Who is your inner rock star? I am Bjork, which supposedly means...

Wow, your inner rock star is Bjork. You've charmed the world with your beautiful, zany, personal style. To say you're a member of the alternative set would be a gross understatement. You and Bjork define alternative in its purest form. You've got nothing to prove, it's your remarkably creative point of view that lets you make art from anything -- art, music, politics --whatever makes you passionate.

It's just who you are. You've got the courage to experiment with your style and career, and all the while remaining positively sweet and humble. You are as much a free spirit as they come. Celebrate your inner Bjork.
I wish I could make those cute pig-tails she wears...

May 22nd:
I am a real Canadian, dammit.

Last year Joe Canada was a national hero up here.. making all Canadians feel proud to not be Americans and to have a beer that united them in this cause. But then Canadians found out that Joe was not really the guy up the street but an actor! They had stood and clapped for him to spew Molson's message of identity and Canadian heritage when he wasn't even getting paid. Didn't that prove his sincerity? How could he do this?

The commercial irritated me because it said the same old stuff I've been hearing since I moved up here -- Americans are totally ignorant of Canada and all things Canadian and the best way to identify yourself as a Canadian is to prove you are not American.

And now it's funny that a) Canadians are losing a 'cultural hero' to the enemy and feel betrayed, and b) he was a huge star up here and is just going to be another pale and out of work schmoe in LA.

May 21st:
From a recent fit of post-concert euphoria... Soggy, shiny, happy people! But damn, I forgot to mention Peter's eggplant iGuitar.

Although I am not happy that they killed Krycek! Bastards!

May 18th:

Ground she's movin' under me
Tidal waves out on the sea
Sulphur smoke up in the sky
Pretty soon we learn to fly

lyrics © Jimmy Buffett, Keith Sykes & Harry Dailey

May 17th:

I'll say it again...
No one as cool as Peter Buck ever walked on this planet.

May 15th:
Happy Birthday to my favorite artist, Jasper Johns!

"Green Angel," Jasper Johns.

May 14th:
Well, my first thought when I read was Emily Dickinson bipolar? was of course "Like me!" and about how I can understand the depression and the manic bursts of creativity and activity.

But then... You know, everyone talks so much about mental illness and creativity like it's a good thing. I just don't see it that way... it's one thing for people now who can get help or find ways to live with illnesses, but before this -- I just think of Emily there, afraid to leave and depressed or mood-swinging and manic or maybe having panic attacks. It's great for us that she wrote so many beautiful poems, but was it worth her suffering?

May 11th:
Okay, I am totally obsessed with the movie Series 7 -- the Contenders even though it's not out yet. (At least not here.) The movie is a t.v. show about six people who get guns and then try to kill each other. Last one alive wins. ("Survivor" for real, eh.) Can you imagine? And isn't it scary to think that if this were real people -would- watch it?

May 9th:
Oh my god!!! Best birthday present EVER!!!

FREE r.e.m. concert in downtown Toronto!!!!

That noise was my head hitting the floor when I read about it!

May 8th:
Oooh.. the school of the writing space has a super nifty website up. I want all of eggtooth's books...

PS to yesterday's entry:
There is nothing wrong with being bipolar and I do not in any way support forced medication for anyone, even God.

May 7th:
Does God suffer from Bipolar Disorder? Well, I don't have a copy of the DSM-IV at my desk, but I can see that it's a possibility... however it would certainly be of the cyclothymia variety. The mood-swings are much faster and I think that for God -- a "major depressive episode" would have to be worse than anything we've seen yet.

Also, bipolar disorder is chemical, so yeah, God needs some meds if this diagnosis is correct.

May 6th:
Now filming: Slap Shot 2, starring the original Hanson Brothers, a bunch of other people, and Callum Keith Rennie!

Buffalo 3, Pittsburgh 2. Sabres lead the series 3 - 2.

May 4th:
If you need welfare in Ontario, guess what? You have to pass a drug test and a literacy test or you are ineligible. The number of people on welfare will decrease, of course, but the number of people who need it and can't get it -- that'll increase.

I hate Ontario Nazis.

May 3rd:
Buffalo 5, Pittsburgh 2

Penguins is practically chickens!!
